Indigenous Rising Treaty 7 is an initiative that was created for youth by youth. The initiative consists of a group of Indigenous youth within Treaty 7 getting connected to change leadership opportunities while reconnecting with peers. Since January, the group has been connecting and hanging out monthly via ZOOM.
In July, a practicum student joined Canada Bridges and supported the IRT7 team, assisting in planning a hike in Banff. It was also the first time IRT7 was able to have our first in person hang out. Despite the smoky air, it was an opportunity for youth to connect with each other in person while being out in the wilderness. The hiking trail was called the C level cirque trail and ended up being difficult although it was considered a moderate level.
The blogpost included in this written update was written by our practicum student; Jessena Labelle-Beaver, who was an amazing addition to our Bridges team for the summer.
