“I’m Sikapinakii, Black Eyed Woman, or English name Alyssa Duck Chief. I’m a 23 year old Blackfoot artist from Siksika Nation.”
This summer, Alyssa Duck Chief will be facilitating an art intensive for youth ages 12-17. The program starts on July 2, and runs on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout July & August at the Deerfoot Sportsplex in Siksika.
The program is called AHKAAPISTOOTSI’PA which means “to make or create something”. Alyssa has a deep understanding of the importance of creativity and art in a young person’s life. Her focus is to introduce young people to fine art mediums, such as print making, collaging, painting, as well as to create experiences exploring the art community in Calgary.
This spring, Alyssa graduated from the Alberta University of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing, and she has decided to bring her knowledge and education back to her community.
