Journalism

In 2004, Bridges was invited to partner with media organizations in the Middle East to coordinate an initiative to help Yemeni journalists tell the stories of women and girls in Yemen. The goal was to sensitively address the issue of supporting professional journalists to better define the role of women in media, and to support the media’s representation and communication of the priorities of local women and girls in places like Yemen.

This initiative was tremendously impactful, not only for the trainees, but also for Bridges and partnering organizations. It became very clear that building the capacity of journalists – empowering them to tell balanced, unbiased stories – is absolutely critical when it comes to inspiring change. There is still a long way to go to achieve accurate, democratic representation of information in many places around the world. Yet as passionate individuals are trained to tell and publish stories, change is happening.   To read more about this project, click here.
